I'm just curious to see what kind of rig everyone's using live and in the studio.

Hi, basically I have got a Peavey Studio Pro 65 watt combo a Sansamp GT2 pedal and a Ibanez TS10 Tube Screamer into this and on the end chain a Boss DD3 delay pedal. This gets me a very convincing Lynch tone and the GT2 is awesomme. I also have a Johnson J-Station which is incredible, this unit produces any sound you want and is one piece of kit I would never ever sell.
For guitars I use my own custom made guitars as well as Kramer,ESP and a Fender. Kammo1 cheesy

For the shows I play with Retro Active, an 80's band, I'm using a Rocktron Voodu Valve preamp, Dunlop Crybaby, Heli Talk Box, Fender tuner pedal, NADY Wireless, Rolls Midibuddy, Carvin 1000 watt poweramp, and a 2 12" cab loaded with Emenance speakers. The cab is pretty much just a referrence monitor, so our overall stage volume isn't that loud. Being that my brother blew one side of my Carvin amp, I'm running one signal from the preamp into his Carvin PA head, using only the monitor portion of it. The line is sent into it, the monitor amp in the head is used for the talk box, and the monitor out is sent into the other side of my blown Carvin amp. I use the grapic EQ on the PA head to roll off the lows and control my cab by the main volume of the Carvin Power amp. (Sometimes I wish I had an easier setup. heh) A direct out is send straight from the preamp into the board. By playing a wide variety of 80's songs, I'm using around 50 presets in a night. I tweaked every preset's tone to the PA, rather than the cab and this set up works out great. The Voodu Valve is definitely an asset to have, especially with the Hush feature.

As far as the studio stuff, guitar cord into a Steavens "The Brick" preamp, then out of that into a VHT poweramp, which powers a 2 12" Greenback loaded cab. Any of the effects were handled within the recording system (Paris Pro) after the tracks were layed.

Bro no probs I try and post as much as I can when I can to help in keeping this board running.
Ok here is one that should bring in some posts. In the late 80-90's I couldn't help noticing in all the guitar mags that the famous guitarists that were getting interviewed and becoming famous nearly all had a Yamaha SPX90 processor in their equipment arsenal. I have never seen one or tried one and was wondering did you guys ever have the chance togive one a test run. The thing that I realised is if our holy grail of guitar tone lies with our idols from this era then should we be on the hunt for this piece of gear? Oh and another effect was the RAT distortion pedal anyone ever owned one and is is THE distortion pedal to end all others Just would love your views on this. Kammo1 cheesy

Some of you have great amp guitar setups.
I'm new to the board, and no I'm not a musician but a music journalist from Canada.
But Big Dee Curtis,a blues artist in Detroit who I represented while he was here in Canada and still do, played a Fender Strat with a Sovtek Midget combo amp.
Just 50 watts, but a tank of an amp that could belt it out.
Big Dee also used a Vox wah and an old Marshall Guv'nor as effects.
If you ever get your hands on a SovTek midget combo
email me and i'll buy it.
I also asked on February the 4th if anyone knew of any
Guitars that were good for playing blues besides Fenders or Gibsons. They're still great guitars, but I want to hear something different at blues jams being played onstage.
I also run a website called Canadian Guitar Player Magazine with monthly articles, interviews and how to pieces.
But were here for The Guitar World Discussion board.
I love reading people's setups onstage and in the studio.
keep playing guys, even if it's for free.

You were asking about good guitars for blues.

I just picked up an old Kramer Focus 3000 last night that is loaded up with an EMG 85 on the bridge and EMG single coils in the middle and at the neck.

When I fired this thing up and played a little using the neck pick up, I got the most awesome SRV sound I have ever heard.

Guitars... mostly Kramer Pacer Imperials

Effects... MXR Dyna Comp, Ratt Distortion, MXR Phase 90

Amp... Mesa Boogie Mark II Head thru late 60's Marshall 4X12 slant cab (funky redish orange color)

I have a bunch of other stuff... but that is the setup for most of my gigs... smiley
