Was the hardware on those early Kramer guitars any good? Did they stay in tune? Does anyone here have one?

The stock bridges typically leave a little to be desired but in all other respects these guitars rock. The myths about the necks changing tune as you play is just that a myth. My Aluminum necked Kramers are far far more stable then my wood necked guitars. But I should say that I live in San Francisco, which pretty much stays the same miserable temp most of the year. I personally prefer the sound of the pre DMZ models and like the old way of mounting the neck but otherwise these guitars are great if you are not a wimp about the weight

Thanks for the info Mongo, and welcome to the forum. I have been to San Fran, and yeah it doesn't really change.

I have 3 aluminum necks. One of them changes out of tune on every song. The other is about every 3 songs. The Duke stays in tune.

What seems to be the problem with them?

It's the aluminum expansion and contraction. It doesn't take much for a guitar to go out of tune. I don't mind at all though. People's reaction to aluminum necks are worth it.

People, if your DMZ is changing tuning, than there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the neck joint!!! I've a 5000 bass, and a 2000 guitar, and I can go months without tuning! Check the allen screws, they may be loose. Later.

I thank you for your kind welcome. Seriously though, the necks on the DMZ series, are without a doubt some of the most stable things on the planet. The idea that that the aluminum contracts and expands is ridiculious. (Actually, it does, but you're not going from -30 degrees to 250 degrees within a few seconds, are you? ) Kramers are known for the neck joint developing hairline cracks. Really study this area of the guitar. If it needs alot of tuning, and the gears are ok, you've got a hairline crack. Later.

Well, what can I say, I've been playing and building/rebuilding for twenty years or so. Besides my friend is the TRUE Kramer nut. (He's got 3 Floyd Roses, 2 DMZ's, and about 13 others!) Which reminds me, if anyone knows of a Ripley, or the electronics of said beast for sale, let me know, cool?

DMZ 3000 owner and lover. This is the ONLY one that I have seen. Would love to hear from anyone who knows about these. I will never play anything but this and my '65 TELE.
